I remember one time at work when I was bringing in a diaper cake that I had made for one of our clients who was going on maternity leave, there was this guy in the elevator with me, and he was staring at the diaper cake I was holding. After carefully examining it, he eventually asked, "Are those diapers???" When I answered yes, he was like, "It looks like a cake!" to which I replied, "Yup, that's the idea!"
One would think that because diaper cakes are all over the Internet that every one knows about it, but no. In fact, I myself didn't know about it until someone gave it to me on my baby shower, and the first time I saw it, I reacted pretty much like that guy in the elevator... clueless.
Of course, a box of diapers is always number 1 on any new mom's wish list, because let's face it, diapers are expensive but babies use a lot of it! But well, wrapping a box of diapers or putting a bow on it is okay, but why not make it more fun and make it into a Diaper Cake!
A Diaper Cake is a non-edible cake made up of useable diapers and decorated with newborn essentials. It's not only a gift, but it can be used as a centerpiece or a balloon weight for baby showers. New moms love it so much that some of them don't want to take it apart and so they use it as a decoration for their new baby's nursery!
So next time you go to a baby shower, try bringing a Diaper Cake. Your unique, creative gift is not only essential to any parents-to-be, but it will earn a lot of "oohs" and "aahs" at the baby shower!
